The hotel was full of knights Armour, tapestries, statues, spinning wheels and creaky stairs. The rooms , OK were a little basic, but the 4 poster with a duvet made into a heart with rose petals on was a nice touch. Breakfasts were delightful and the evening meals quite nice. The manager and his wife were very friendly and helpful. And of course there was the tower with a dungeon at the base and great views all around at the top.
We were going to stay in the Sleeping Beauty castle ,which we did visit - so glad we stayed at Hotel Burg. Would we go back for a quiet romantic weekend break again And you can climb it! This is said to be the tower that the story was written about, and is a highlight on the Fairy Tale road and Brothers Grimm travel route. The climb up the tower is intriguing, with tight, narrow stairs.
The view from the top is great, and a glimpse into what it was like for royalty to look out over their lands. The hotel rooms are in other parts of the castle. The rooms are funky and each one is unique. I was by myself so i had a single bed. The cool feature in my room was a wardrobe that had a secret passage to a lower bathroom! These are not new and modern rooms, but you're staying here it is Rupenzel's castle, not because you want a 5-star accommodation.
Lots of thought and detail are put into your stay. A story about a friendly ghost is printed and left in your room along with a welcome letter and small cake. If you plan to eat in the restaurant, they put your name on one of the tables and look forward to seeing you.
There is also a salt room and sauna for use at an extra cost. There is not much in the town that is walking distance from the castle, so you really need a rental car to stay here and go see things in the surrounding hills and towns. We recently stayed at Burg Trendelburg for one night August for my daughter's birthday as part of our visit to part of the Fairy Tale drive Marchenstrasse.
